New VATS modules
and is the new one coded to the key pellet or vice versa? so not just ANY module would work?
Used are all over fleaBay but I'm not 100% sure of the exact replacement or if the module is generic and the code is held by the ECM?
This is a fix or a repair issue for me, not a bypass. I plan on keeping VATS because VATS has kept my car and prevented someone from driving away 2 or 3 times...so I'm not interested in a bypass. I am curious about a proper emergency bypass for the module...
it looks like grounding the green wire will give the OK to the ECM and enable relay...if I am reading the drawing correctly.
Any help with this? locating new modules?
Thanks
and registers the first resistance it " sees" when installed in the car as it's resistor value which can't later be changed
A used unit obviously would only recognize the resistor value it was originally programmed for
The system is designed so it can"t simply be bypassed with ease
In your case I would spend $100 on a prom with VATS deleted that you could carry with you
and permanently bypass the starter relay ( any decent thief can hotwire a starter so that fuction of VATS is only a annoyance factor )
so if you are stranded by VATS all you would have to do is install the alternative prom in the computer
and drive home to fix the car

Car thieves do not have TIME. It takes TIME to break in to the dash, install jumper wires and do so without attracting attention. If a thief cannot start a car in 30 seconds they leave it. It takes 10 minutes even with a crow bar to get into the harness and do some wiring in the dash...
I DO know that there is a way to trigger the module to send the OK signal...doing that now. I have to ground a wire to get the starter to engage. Its not the enable relay, so the problem comes from the module. It has acted up intermittently in the past.. sometimes screwing me with no crank every time for a month..then the symptoms vanish for 2 yrs. Now it just does not want to work unless I ground that circuit and "help" it send its OK signal to the ECM and allow starter operation.
I'm replacing enable relay, module AND getting a ND starter since my ol 40 lb delco may have a flakey solenoid as well that hates heat. That adds to the problems when heat soak mimics a VATS event...
So, anyone with some idea of where or who sells new modules would have my never ending gratitude !
