Default Will Fuel Filter cause an intermittent problem ???

I have an 88 vette with L98... I've done all i could think of to get my car to run right. the list below is what i've done.

New cap, rotor, wires, plugs
New IAC, O2 sensor
Checked timing
No codes and good gas mileage

The problem is it sometimes it has awesome power and sometimes it is a total basketcase... Like tonight i floored it from a stop and i felt like i wasn't even stepping on the gas. Idled fine and the funny thing was is that i set my MPG stayed about the same after i floored it... Seems like it proved that it wasn't getting any gas at that moment. I know i could hook up the fuel pressure gauge and drive it and see but whats weird is it doesn't run this bad all the time. Sick of Runs awesome then Runs like a escort... Does this sound like the fuel filter *(but mind you it's intermittant) or maybe the injectors...???

Doesn't sound like fuel filter. The computer uses your injector pulse width and speed to find your miles per gallon. If it doesn't change maybe it's on average mode or if it's on instant then that means your pulse width did not go up when you stomped the gas.

Your computer would use your TPS, MAF, O2 (if it's lean) sensor to calculate the needed pulse width (it uses the TPS to determine WOT mode).

I'm thinking it's a bad injector more so than the fuel filter, but who knows. Change the filter first, it's cheaper.

I will change the fuel filter first... Hopefully it fixes it. Very weird that light throttle could be good and when i ask for WOT it just laughs !!! Sometimes... That's what's puzzling.

I just changed my fuel filter today... It seemed to start up quicker and maybe idled a bit smoother. Took it out to see how it responded now and it seems to accelerate the same or better than before... Will see if it starts to act up again later. Went to a parking lot by my house and did a couple tire smoking donuts :D :D :D
Seems to be running great....

Yeah i checked it not to long ago... Was at 4.8 volts i believe and responded smoothly through changes with the throttle. Didn't check it when it ran poorly though. Might be intermittant, who knows. Will see later if it does the same thing...

i'd guess TPS too. yank out your TPS and see if it feels similar...

i meant yank out the TPS wire off the sensor, and take the car out for a spin. it should still start and run, although pretty badly. i was suggesting compare this experience to that experience you refer to as "running like a dog". if it runs badly in a similar way, it COULD be an intermittent TPS failure.

intermittent TPS failures are tough to catch, and i don't even know if the C4's have this type of diagnostic. if this is the case, the TPS can go bad for a split second and still not set off a code, while it will still make the car feel like a dog for that moment.

just a suggestion. hope you find the problem!
