Crank by hand until you've got 0 degrees on the Balancer at the Timing Mark and the rotor is pointing to the #1 cylinder. With a straight edge from the Rotor, mark that on the Intake manifold with a Sharpie. That way you won't have to guess where it goes when you re-install it.
After you pull the dist cap:
-mark on intake base where wires come out of dist
-mark on dist base where rotor is pointing
-lift dist until rotor stops turning and mark again on dist base
Before installing new dist, transfer marks from old to new dist; then:
-align dist wires with mark on intake base
-point rotor to 2nd mark on base and work dist gears into cam gears
-with gears fully meshed rotor should be pointing to 1st mark on base
