today we went to the all Camaro & Chevy show which is about an hour & a half away from our house.
the weather was about 60 degrees. by the time we got to the show, she was over heating (well not really) she was just spewing anifreeze all over the place from the top of the Radiator Expansion Tank. we let her sit & when I went home later that afternoon. IN HEAVY traffic she didnt over heat what so ever.
& it was 85 degrees out.
We could use more info:
1. Year vehicle.
2. Gage reading when "spewing" coolant.
3. Did you replenish coolant to compensate for the coolant loss?
4. Did the siphon work (coolant in overflow tank return to radiator during cool-down)?
5. On return trip, what was the gage reading?
To make coolant 'spew', an unusual force must be present, like an exhaust leak through a head gasket into the cooling system. Normally, coolant will just expand into the overflow tank without 'spewing', and return to the radiator during cool-down. One reason the spewing stopped on the return trip may be due to insufficient coolant in the system, but that would lead to overheating.
sorry its a 90 vert
spewing coolant from the expansion tank only.
yes we did put water in the rad.
there was coolant in the overflow
the gage read 160 the whole time both trips
Assuming your coolant lines to the surge tank are secure and not leaking. How old is the cap and does it hold pressure?
I do not know. That is one of the things that we plan on changing when we have some down time to do it (yes i know it doesnt take that long to change)
the only diffs between the run to the show & the run home is on the run to the show I had the top up & the heat up to about 70 degrees.
on the run home the top was down & the temp was down to 60.
