Default Chevy Power Book Need Help Please!!!!

Does anyone know where I could possibly access this online? Or if anyone has a copy could they scan and post/e-mail the section on properly installing the two piece rear main seal adapter? Unfortunatley I don't have access to a copy here in the UK and I really want to get my car fixed soon.

thanks,

I'm pretty sure I have one at home but I won't be back until the work day is over here in the midwest USA.

jmr,

That would be fine. Do you by chance have access to a scanner? Like the prior posts said I'm after the section explaining how to install the two piece rear main seal adapter in a one piece block. I think we didn't install it correctly, just can't get it to stop leaking. Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't own a scanner but I know some who does. I'll post here when I get home.

You can give me that frosty e-beverage when I actually come thru for you. Sorry it's taking me so long. Got sidetracked before I even stepped in the door this evening. The scanner I had hoped to use was/is not available. I'll run by a commercial copier in the morning. Until then, maybe this text will satisfy a little bit of your hunger for knowledge. I'm looking at a GM Power Book, 6th edition, pages "5-20" thru "5-21".

"The inside diameter of the seal adapter must be accurately aligned with the crankshaft centerline for proper oil sealing. The adapter is positioned on the back of the engine block by a hollow dowel. Because the location of this dowel is not held to close tolerances, the seal adapter must be centered when it is first installed. This can be accomplished using a dial indicator or a plug gauge machined to the dimensions shown in Figure 63. In some instances, it may be necessary to remove the hollow dowel in order to align the seal adapter properly.

After the adapter is aligned with the crank centerline, it must be permanently positioned on the block. Drill two holes through the adapter and block and install solid dowel pins. These dowels may be located anywhere on the machined surface of the block flange, but they must not interfere with the flywheel or flywheel flange."

The "gauge plug" mentioned in the first paragraph is dimensioned in Figure 63.

Scans are done but they're on floppies. I'll go home over lunch and ftp them.

I scanned all the pics from the Power Book. Also typed the text out in case it's too difficult to read from the scans.

Just follow this link: http://www.home.earthlink.net/~jmr302/Jeffm.htm

jmr you are the man!!!!     I can't thank you enough. If you ever need anything from across the pond don't hesitate. I found a small article in one of my Lingenfelter books but this really helps. I'm sure my problem is one of two things; either the adapter isn't aligned properly or the upper adapter to block gasket is missing or both. Like I mentioned earlier I didn't assemble the motor so I'm not sure. I'm going to stop by a machine shop near the base tomorrow and have them make me up a couple of dowels. My only other problem is I have to do this with the engine in the car i.e. the crank installed. Hopefully I can use the calibrated eye to align/drill the housing. :D Again I can't thank you enough for doing this, if I can ever return the favor please don't hesitate.

thanks again!!!!!!
