Default 1/4 TIPS

I was just curious if some of the experienced racers can give some 1/4 tips...

launching tips? What RPM do you rev at before the launch?
shifting tips?
This may sound stupid...but im going to ask anyway...ASR on or off?

I used to race my chevelle a while back, but a corvette is a different animal. I had a 3000 rpm stall speed and would rev to 3000 rpm before taking off the line. If i do that with my LT4 with the ASR off, I can barely keep the car on the road, its swerves left then right, then slides into 2nd and 3rd. If I did that in a race I know I would get spanked (spinning my tires..wasting time).

vr,
Volt

what kind of mods do you have? I can't spin the tires in my GS in third, and hardly from 1st to 2nd just a quick kick to the side and that's it. what kind of tires do you have?

If you are running street tires I would launch the car at no more than 1800 rpm.

BTW: Do not run with the traction control on!

The 6 speed is a difficult animal to get off the line correctly. Frank, A.K.A. Mojo is pretty good with a stick car and I have pulled 1.9x short times on street tires before. It just takes practice since every track is different, every set of tires hooks different and every car and clutch is a little different. While mine is an L-98 (different animal alltogether) launching mine is best done at 1800rpm or so and slip the clutch just a little, not much and lay into the throttle. Sorry I can t help anymore than to say practice, practice, practice. Keep the engine temp cool also, dont idle in the staging lanes :nono: it'll only heat up the motor=less hp.

Absolutly turn the ASR off.

My 94 will hold a 2500 launch on 285/40/17 Googyears. I don't dump the clutch,...but it is a VERY fast slip. This has netted me 1.90's-2.0's on a couple different tracks. I get just a little wheelspin, maybe 5ft or so in 2nd,...then just a chirp into 3rd at the track. However,...on the street I've kicked the backend out going into 3rd hard a couple of times. And on the bottle it gets really fun.

I have only had my 93 on the track 1 time. I've had some mods and only got 6 runs in. I ran with ASR ON the first 5 runs thinking it would help. My best was a 13.65 @ 110.53. I then turned ASR OFF for the last run and ran a 13.38 @ 108.19 MPH. Had I known, I would have had ASR off the entire time. Definitely run with the ASR OFF. My best 60 foot time was also with ASR OFF and was a 2.2717. I know the car is capable of much better times all the way around, but like someone else mentioned, tires, track, conditions all are different and make for difficult tips. You just have to play with the track, your car and the conditions to get optimal times!
