My 95 has a front oil leak so it's coming apart for whatever it needs to fix the leak. I have ordered a Felpro engine front end gasket set so I'll be able to do em all. Wondering though about changing out the Opti cap rotor and wires at the same time. It would be easier to do now than later. Ebay has the whole blooming Opti, cap, rotor and all for $65 delivered, so now the thinking is replace it as well. There is no doubt the thing is Chinese, but what isn't these days? This is less than the price of just the cap and rotor from many places.

Anyone have experience with these Optis?

You get what you pay for. A search will reveal how well these units hold up...or not

I see what you mean. Since mine is ok, I think I'll go with a new cap, rotor and wires. The car has 124K on it and is running well. Maybe, if it ain't broke, don't fix it might be the way to go. Thanks for the reply.

I have just done this job for my 95... I have lots of insight for ya

Mine too had the front oil leak and I figured I would tackle it someday, but couldn't bring my self to tear it down for just a seal... Guess what, the opti started acting up on me one day, and it was time for a new one. (even though I had just replaced the water pump two weeks before the opti started to sputter at anything other than idle.

I put up a post on here about how the car was running and got great advice from a forum member that lives in my city and he came out to look at it. We ruled out other issues and determined it was the opti.

I tell you that because this all ties together with your issue.

Oil leak on the front puts all kinds of goo on the opti and depending on mileage, it's probably due since your gonna have the front of the motor off anyway. I had 160k on my original opti so I was quite thankful it made it that far. You can buy a new (quality) cap and rotor for 100-150 and replace that, but why? I'll tell ya why?

There's a company on eBay selling a NEW (not reman) opti that is an incredible deal in my opinion. Chandler motor sports, parts are made in America and they offer warranties. 89.99 shipped and it's a damn good one. They will even sell you one for under 200 that has a lifetime warranty Everything I read about the cheapo Chinese optis are that you will be replacing it quickly an doing the job over.

I was very thankful for the insight of this kid I met on the forum because he had also done this same job and currently has 12000 miles on his chandler opti with perfect function. There are many threads on these optis and the consensus is good.

So, to wrap it up. Oil leak on the old opti is bad. But it's a "while your in there" good idea to replace the opti with one of these. Read up an decide for yourself. But I'm sure sold

I have about 500 miles on mine and it took 2 full evenings to finish the job with new seals and all the goodies. And yes, my oil leak is gone too!!
