Re: Fuel Injector Cleaner (marthpodi)
FYI marthpodi, there's been a firestorm of controversy surrounding this topic. I only use automatic transmission fluid after every oil change at 3,000 miles. Pour one quart into a FULL tank of fuel and that does the trick for me. Keeps injectors and intake valves nice and clean.
I've heard some of the commercial products contain methanol which allegedly can damage the injector's rubber O-ring seals and windings. I believe GM issued a service bulletin regarding this issue....

Re: Fuel Injector Cleaner (onedef92)
I just got a bottle of Outlaw fuel injector cleaner. My brother-in-law says it's the best. His advice has been pretty good so far. When I get gas again I will use it.
I sure would like to know if there is something to the idea of damaging the injectors with injector cleaner. If that is the case why is the stuff being sold over the counter?

I use the Redline Brand. It's available at Pep Boys.

Re: Fuel Injector Cleaner (devons88vette2)
IT seems there's a lot of controversy and little agreement on this issue. So I guess I'll have to be a little more careful about finding out which (if any) to use.
Thanks,
marthpodi

Re: Fuel Injector Cleaner (marthpodi)
Since you have an 89 there is a good chance you have the Multec injectors. Best not to use any injector cleaner.
I have gotten away with Techron in my 89, but haven't repeated it since I learned about the multec problem.

Re: Fuel Injector Cleaner (PeteL)
If anything at all, I will only use Chevron Techron. It is recommended as the only "injector cleaner" to be used with our injectors (course I don't have "ours" in mine any more, but I like the Techron :)).

Re: Fuel Injector Cleaner (marthpodi)
GM sells there "safe stuff" over the counter but it runs about $32-34 per bottle. A little trendy. :smash:

Re: Fuel Injector Cleaner (marthpodi)
The shop manual says specifically "Do not use an injector cleaner. The injectors are designed to make a cleaner unnecessary."
That said the local Chevy dealer uses Techron. So it either works or it eats up the injectors requiring them to be replaced later.

Re: Fuel Injector Cleaner (ittlfly)
I use Chevron with Techron gas anyway, that should be good enough, right?
