Default Lowering power window manually - '92

Sorry for cross-posting but my thread in General is not getting any action so far and I'm somewhat on "hold". Maybe there's folks on this forum who don't see that one as often.

Replacing the drivers side window motor on my '92. Bought a reconditioned motor and regulator rather than just the motor itself. The old motor does not work at all and the window is fully in "up" position. I need to lower it so I can remove the window stops etc in order to remove the window.

Only option I see other than a sawz-all is to take the torx bolts off the cover of the motor. Does that give me access to anything which can be turned by hand? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I don't remember what the motor looks like. Can you post a pic? Most of the time they are screwed or bolted to the regulator if you can drill or grind these bolts off the regulator will be free. Be careful some regulators are spring loaded and will suddenly clamp your finger. If it is the Cable kind you are in luck..simply snip/cut the cable and it will move freely.

Ch@os, the motor is held onto the regulator by 3 rivets. If just swapping motors, you grind those off and replace them with bolts or screws. Problem is, to do that you need the regulator out of the car.

I have been using the FSM, and this thread http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...with-pics.html as reference. You can see the motor in the last pic of that thread.

Unfortunately the motor sits way down at the bottom and you can't easily get at it. If the window is half down you can remove the stops and related stuff, take the window glass itself out, then wiggle the regulator around and out of the car. But it seems you can't remove the window if it's all the way up.

I'm going to try taking the cover off the old motor if I can reach everything, and see if there's some shaft or gear I can get at to manually make it turn.

Oh.. If you can take the motor apart that should work. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Got it! Now I feel a bit foolish for not figuring it out sooner. That's the answer, take the Torx 25 screws out, take the cover off the motor, and you can manually turn the armature to make it move. Green Hornet had the same suggestion over in C4 General - I was probably turning as he was posting!

Thanks Ch@os and maybe this thread will help someone in the future.

I had the same problem on my 92. You got to take the window frame out, drill out the rivets and install the new motor. The new motor came with three bolts; use loctite, clean and grease the rails, align the window and happy driving.
