Pressure build up in gas tank---normal?

I used to work at a dealership. That was over 5 years ago. So you think I signed up on this forum 2 months ago in order to ask for help on a customers car now? WOW! Ya got me! I figured for sure that if I lurked around in here for a couple months first, that you would never suspect a thing.
Look guy, I'm not trying to start a war with you or anyone else. I will not ask another car related question here ever again. Sorry. I guess I misunderstood what a car forum was for.

I was at the local Pick Your Part junkyard yesterday and found an '84 Corvette. I remembered this thread and removed the mysterious connector on the tank.
I can take pictures if anybody is interested, but it's pretty basic. There are two hose barbs 180° from each other. The hole goes straight through and there are no restrictors or anything like that. There is a small hole into the bottom of the T, which is the threaded part that screws into the tank. I measured the hole at 0.045" diameter. I tried sticking a screwdriver into the hole the connector came out of and it didn't go through. The light was bad and I couldn't tell if there were any holes into the tank (it would seem that there would have to be).

charcoal canister
My canister vents through the top only. There are 2 ports on the bottom only. One port goes to the gas tank and the other goes to the line that feeds the purge valve on the engine. I got the new one and it looks identicle to the old one, but there is no type of check valves in it as I can blow either way through either port...same as the old one, but the charcoal is not loose inside.

That depends on your definition of "normal" and the context its used in.
This problem has occurred (on this forum) more than a few times over the years.
Its an L98 thing.....

Pressure behind Gas Cap & in tank
there will be pressure behind the cap. Due to the gas expanding due to heat. Before fueling let the truck run and remove gas cap. Then shut off truck & fuel it up.

Pressure behind gas cap
I have a 84 Chevy c10 with small block 350 crate. It use to have a lot of pressure behind cap. If removed it would push your hand and blow by. Fix: took and removed gas lines and added an external fuel filter at fuel pump and one at the carb. It lets it breath better.

Old thread I know... But do you have pictures of the connector on the tank? My 85 had the pressure issue at the gas cap in hot weather.

I dont have pics of the connector but I ended up running a plastic fuel line from the vent line outlet on the gas tank all the way to the engine bay were it connects to the line for the evap canister, it took care of the problem. As far as I can tell it was the line that goes over the rear suspension that was blocked up, never could get air to blow through it, at one point my pressure was so bad when I unscrewed the gas cap it almost blew it into orbit.

Needed to revive this thread as it EXACTLY illustrates what I am looking for (thanks to the SEARCH function) eheh
I am needing to locate where exactly the 3 "T" hoses go from the bottom of the evap charcoal canister..
mine was only hooked up to the shortest hose on the bottom nipple.
I cant seem to locate where the hose with the number lable goes???? do the other 2 hoses just remain open / to atmosphere?
why would there need to be 2 plus a "T" then?
thanks
where do the longer 2 hoses attach??
