The driver side window goes up and down but when it is up the rear of the window is about 1/2 inch too low. This causes the top edge to not follow the weather strip and the top rear corner to hit the door jam as the door closes.
I have not pulled the door panel yet. Any suggestions of what I am looking for? Something broken, jammed, etc.?
Suggestions for pulling the door panel?
Remove the screws from the bottom of the door panel. Once it is all loose then lift the panel off. Have a look to see if the power window is what is causing the problem. If not then see if the window simply needs adjustment.
Removed screws in bottom of panel, two in arm rest handle, one under light, disconnected electrical connections for windows and mirror. Panel still seems connected around the door latch handle.
Hidden screws? Some kind of clips around the handle?
Cant get the panel out far enough to try to disconnect any latch mechanism stuff. Does the latch handle stay there and the panel come out around it?
I got the panel off etc. Found that the problem is not the rear too low, the front goes too high.
If I stop the window just before it stops itself all is well and the window is in the right spot. The last little bit the rear of the window stops but the front keeps going up.
Is there a stop adjustment on the regulator so it will stop before it ***** the window?
Sounds like your black plastic stop thingy is cracked. It's been a while since I was in there, but you see the vertical guide rod toward the front of the door? The plastic guide attaches to the window (or maybe the regulator, its been a while) and rides on that metal rod. It has a part on the back that hits a metal stop to stop the window from doing what your's is now doing. Problem is, the plastic always loses when it hits the metal, and the regulator isn't smart enough to stop until it's too late. Mine broke again when I replaced it, so I super glued it back together. Look in the bottom of your door for the cracked piece, and you will see what I am talking about.
Found several pieces of the plastic thingy in the bottom of the door, and I see where it goes. I will order a new one.
Thank you! (and thanks for the link to the part)
Need more assistance...
I have things such that I can get a socket on the screw that holds the plastic stop in place. Apparently it is screwed into a metal disc on the other side of the glass and the entire disc turns with the screw. Suggestions on how to hold that disc from turning?
It feels like it may have two additional holes in it that a spanner wrench could go into - if I knew the spacing on the holes I might be able to make something.
Ah, yes. From what I recall, it was pretty tricky. I'm sure there is a special tool for it, but I believe I used snap ring pliers, the kind with a 90 degree bend at the tips. I just kinda felt back there and got the tips in the holes, then held the pliers tight against the metal disc with my left hand, while using the socket and ratchet with my right hand. You don't actually squeeze the pliers, just hold the tips in the holes so the disc doesn't spin.
Got it apart and back together. Window works OK etc. but has a mild clunk as the window gets about to the bottom. Probably will have to take it back apart one of these days and see what is going on.
I used a 16d nail bent into kind of a 'J' shape to hold the disk from turning on the back side of the glass. Once I had it out I made a tool to fit it in case I have to do it again.
Thank you for your help.
