I have A "91" auto coupe with 18,400 miles on it. I Recently had to replace the gear selector cable (range selctor cable), not a cheap repair about $450. I got it back from the shop and put 69.1 miles on it before it broke for the second time in a week. The shop owner said the first cable broke due to the crimp failing at the top of the cable near the shifter. I havent contacted the shop I had do the work, I wanted to do a little research first. The car runs great and has no other mechanical problems that I know of, Any ideas???
I had the work done at Corvette Connection in Denver. The shop owner advised me that job was about five hours of work and that the drive shaft had to be disconnected so the back transmission could be tipped down for the cable to be routed to the transmission. Is this the proper procedure for this????
Did I really get ripped off ???? :mad
Re: "91" AUTOMATIC BREAKING TRANSMISSION CABLES??? (Mile High "91")
I would get a 2nd opinion from a transmission shop, Chevy Dealer or another Corvette shop. There is a brand new shop that just opened up in Broomfield:
Dragon Race Engineering
7317 W. 118th Pl. Unit B
Broomfield, CO 80020
303 438 1571
Don't be scared off by the Diesel thing - I took my Vette there and they sent me home because they looked at it and found that my problem was not transmission related - and they didn't charge me for diagnosis!
