The converter may have been loaded up with raw fuel from you turning it over with the bad coil.... it may also be running rough because the plugs are fouled/loaded up as well.

the issue after i got the engine started ended up being crossed plug wires on the opti. i took the time to replace the plugs and wires on the right side of the engine and the engine started and ran perfectly! i hope to get to the left side of the engine and replace the plugs and wires on that side as well. today was my first real drive in my new 94 and i can tell you its one hell of an AWESOME car!!! what an improvement over my 84! now, if the clutch weren't slipping, i could really feel how well the car accelerates!

you, you confirmed it. totally my fault as to why the engine wouldn't run. i was stupid enough to look at the painted on numbers on the wires and assume that they were routed correctly.. i know better. i've been working on cars for 14 years, i should have known better. no more labatt blue when working on the Vette, lol

double check your firing order. if you dont have a factory service manual, but still have the old opti, the plug wire numbers are on the side of the cap where the plug wires connect. and if you dont already know ,the drivers side front plug is#1 next is#3 next is #5 and the last is #7. the drivers side of your opti starting at the top is#5 second from top is #3 , third from the top is #7 and bottom is #1. the passenger side of the opti starting at the top is #4 , second from top is #6 , third from the top is #8 and bottom is #2

change the spark plug gap, delco optis like a wide gap .050 but aftermarket optis are prefer a smaller gap .035

try that, i had the same problem with my dynacrap opti with a weak spark, shorten the gap and fired right up
