I've always liked the sound of the '65-'67 Vette sidepipes, which is created by use of a chambered exhaust tube in place of a muffler. I was thinking of taking an LT1 tip and welding it to a piece of 16"-18" chambered exhaust tube and using it in place of the muffler. It probably will be loud, since the tubes on the sidepipes were at least 4 foot long, but it still seems it would be quieter than "muffler eliminators".
Has anyone ever tried this, how did it work out?
Thanks
Look at it this way, if you don't like it you can still purchase one of the chambered exhaust kits. Assuming it's an LT-1 or LT-4 your wrenching on.
Actually it's an '89 L98 which is why I was wondering how it would sound. I won't have the dual chambers running down the center like the LT1's, I'll just have these pipes at the end of my stock cat-equipped system in place of the mufflers ( with LT1 tips added ).
Can't believe nobody has tried this???
To get similar sound you need duals and then chambered exhaust.
Otherwise you have 8 cylinders combined and later split into two paths, instead of 4 down two paths from the headers.
It's sort of like combining two stereo channels into a mono and then feeding the mono into two speakers. No matter what the speakers, it won't sound like stereo.
