That pipe diverts some exhaust gas to the EGR valve, which opens to send hot exhaust gas to the intake manifold to mix with the incoming fresh air as part of the emission control system. Far as I know, the loose clamp results in nothing more than a small exhaust system leak. On mine it sounded like a ticking lifter.

All the mechanics and muffler specialists I visited could do was tell me I had a leak and I needed to find someone with the right crimping tool. The tech at the Chevy dealer just said, "yeah, those clamps are a bitch." I don't visit those guys anymore.

I just welded the hole shut on the exhaust manifold, made a blockoff plate for the intake, and shazam, no code no problems... I also caned the cats and air pump crap, ran straight pipes back to flowmasters with a nice crossover just behind the diff. sounds eager...
