this saturday the 1.6 roller rockers go in. Might as well change the plugs while were at it. Is there any difference in ac rapid fires and the stock ac plug that came in the car? BIG difference in price. 4.00 each for rapid fires, 1.29 for stock ac plugs. I notice champion platinum plugs at about 1.49, same for auto lite platinum. Are they comperable to the ac rapid fires? whats the answer? thanks. James Holley in Clovis Ca
I run Bosch platium + 4's in the 84 and the 91 ZR-1 no problems, but I'm not going to claim any noticable horse power gains in either vehicle. :yesnod:
I installed the Bosch Plantnium +4s in my LT1. I think they are a bit $$$ but I have noted a 2-3 mile per gallon increase in mileage and smoother running. Just my 2cs.
NEVER ever EVER, use a champion plug in your car. They are complete junk, horrible quality, and only belong in lawn mowers. Autolite quality is questionable sometimes, AC delco doesn't know how to set gaps on plugs (yours should be .45), Bosch Plantinum seem alright, Ngks are good plugs but do not last very long in rigourous driving.
I was told by a fairly well known Corvette Tuner that the regular AC's were the best. :yesnod:
I myself do NOT want a plug to last me 100K miles. I would just as soon take them out every year or so to see how they are doing. :yesnod:
That and the fact that a lot of people say the platinum "pucks" can fall off and get into the engine.
Temperature range is far more important for performance than the
construction of the plugs; either fancy electrodes or the composition
of the metal in the electrode.
For what it's worth (probably the same $0.02 as everything else
you'll read unless its backed up by back-to-back dyno runs),
all I've ever used is basic Champion Copper plugs, in the C4, C5,
and whatever else, on sale at WalMart for $0.99 each. :)
That includes 6 years of track days on the C4, 1/4 mile passes,
and a half dozen dyno runs. No measureable difference between
the stock platinums and the Champion Coppers, except the
price and how often you have to change them.
