Mike your inbox is full, here is a question for you. Let me see if I understand, arap IS the code for an '89 Corvette ecm? I've been looking on ebay and they all list the ecm as fitting a number of years. Are they all arap code or am I missing the whole thing?
any 86-89 ecm should work, you can load an arap bin into it with an adapter from moates if you have a hard time finding an ecm that came with an arap chip.
arap bin is obtainable pretty easily a quick Google search will yield results

Yep. ARAP is a customized, "downloadable" code into the late 80's ECMs. Though I would think it might be specific to the non-CSI 89 ECM. (Doesn't mean it can't be tweaked for use with cold-start injector equipped years.)
ARAP really has nothing to do with what ECM you're buying. It's just one version of (generic performance) code you can load as a starting point for tuning. Without looking at the ads you're seeing, maybe ARAP is the most commonly loaded "bin" for the last 80's performance cars. It's certainly a good starting point.
FWIW, I believe ARAP is written for ECM's running the $6E mask. (Though I don't recall the specific years...might be 87-89 GM 350. (or maybe 86-89 as stated in the post above.)
You have a computer (ECM), a code file (variable settings for the program to use), and a definition file (which is a type of mask for looking at the code file.
Thanks to both of you for clearing this up for me. Please pardon my illiteracy in the computer world. While I am tempted to do the tuning myself I just don't feel good about it. I am planning on having the tuning done by someone with a dyno who can do it right. Does this sound doable?
ARAP is the stock GM bin for a '89 Vette auto with 3.07 rear
^^^^ this...
ARAP is just the code letters for a particular vehicle option pkg programming. GM was known for some glaring bugs in the early days of EFI. The '89 ARAP code was the most refined and should be used as the base for any '86-'89 MAF tuning.

Seriously? APYP is what I thought the 89 Vette bin is. I've used both as reference. It's surprising some of the differences -- if the only difference is the transmission.
