4+3 overdrive turn on voltage?

I rewired the overdrive switch.
Here is the wiring I'm looking at

What I had done was run a new wire from the connector on the side of the od case(solenoid) to a SPST switch, then another wire from a fused +12vdc... Flip the switch, 12v goes to the soenoid and the the OD is activated.
I then cut the wires coming off the first gear switch, and spliced the switch into my new circuit. Today, I moved over to the stock switch on the console, and I spliced in the original green wire still that I'll have the dash indicator light.
Basically, in the above diagram, remove the relay, and put +12vdc to the blue wire and that's my setup.
Now the dash indicator light is on if the switch is on, and if I put the car in first, the light stays on. Is that normal, our could my first great switch be faulty? If so can I just replace it with the second or forth gear switch?
You would have to put a DVM on the switches to select the correct one as it appears they are opposites ; on is NC and the other is NO

I put the first gear switch between the solenoid and the switch.
So the there is nothing interrupting the light circuit except the on/off switch.

I used a relay off of the ignition switch to arm the engage relay, then used the engage relay to turn on the trans.
I used a rocker switch so I don't have to look at the switch to find out if it's on or off.
The engage relay goes through the first gear lock-out switch and then the first gear switch has a wire that goes to the trans overdrive connector.
works slick.
Been that way for about 3 or 4 years.
light? what light?
