Default 4L60e question

Ok, I ve heard the 4l60 is a better transmission strength wise than the 700r4, so im thinking about swapping. What modifications will have to take place...if any at all, and what about the computer? Ive heard they have their own computer and if you have to tune that with your engine application. I need to know the modifications, and which 4L60e to buy. Have been looking on jegs, and summit, but i would also buy a rebuilt one. Just lemme know the facts ladies and gents. THANKS I guess I should mention its an 87 corvette lololol

I believe that in terms of their inner workings the 700R4, 4L60, and 4L60e are the same. There is nothing special about the e except that it has no TV cable and gets its cues from the CCM instead.

I have read, however that the 4L65e is stronger and that with the normally advised 3-4 clutch pack upgrades that the 700R4 can be stronger than any of the variants that left the factory.

PM PeteK for the, imo, best advice.

You can have a good jump on a performance rebuild on your 700R4 for the 400-600 TCM will cost to run the 4L60E. If you do decide to go with an E trans, go with the 4L70E like a trailblazer SS runs.

Rule number one; keep it cool and change the fluid often. Both are good if you obey the rules. Rule number 2; see rule number one.

Rule number 3; use Amsoil Racing Transmission fluid and your problems will go away. I used to have to rebuild my tranny twice a year. Now every 2 years since using this stuff.
