I had the same thing happen on my '93. It was due to a blown fuse
on the radio. As soon as I saw it, I went around the car checking the
function of all the systems & found the radio inoperative.
In my case, replacing a blown fuse caused the new fuse to blow. Turned
out to be a wire in the harness was rubbing against a metal bracket under
the dash & wore away the insulation. Went nuts finding it.

Could be the battery, also a blown fuse. Does the car make a buzzing sound with the key in, engine off and door open? If so, you have a blown fuse.
When I had the blown fuse, anytime I tried to turn on the light that had the blown fuse, the "SYS" would start flashing.

that will also happen if you have an aftermarket stereo due to a change in the wiring config. if that is the deal, there was a fix posted a long time ago, you may want to try a search

the same thing is happenin in my 96, happened rite after I put a aftermarket stereo in it, there was a fix posted for me, I havnt got around to fixing it ( now that I know what it is, Its not a big deal )

Stock stereo, I'll check the fuses when I can.
Either way, doesn't sound critical ... unless of course, I'm out and the battery dies.

90% of the time, it means your battery is dying. I've had this twice, both times it's been a bad battery.
