I am thinking about disassembly of the front suspension to grease up and hopefully eliminate some serious squeaking when hitting bumps. I have average mechanical abilities and a decent set of tools (no specialized automotive tools). After looking it over, I am concerned that I might get in over my head. You know, take something apart and cannot get it back together.....I appreciate any feedback from this that have been down this path!
before you start taking things apart, try a spray can of silicon lube. i had a squeaky front end on my 85, and it turned out to be the rubber bushings on the front sway bar. you may have to drop the sway bar, and use a silicon grease on the internal contact surfaces of the bushings. also, the two alignment pins at the rear of hood that mates to a plastic frame bushings was also a source of squeaking. again, a light coating of silicon grease on the pins solved the problem.
Does it have stock rubber bushings or aftermarket polyurethane?
If its stock rubber they probably will have some cracks by now.
Also the spring can squeak where it rubs against the lower control arms. But the swaybar is the most likely culprit, the bushings in there see much more twisting than the rest.
