My 1990 vette has had difficulty starting when the engine is cold. I've had this problem for a few years. It used to take 2 or 3 attempts before it started. Lately, it seems to have gotten worse. Now it takes about 4 or 5 tries before it starts. It just keeps cranking and cranking but won't start until a number of tries. Here's the strange thing. Once the engine is warm, it will restart right away. So if i drive somewhere, i have no problem starting it again. Only when the engine is cold the problem exists.
I'm in a warm climate so when i say cold start, I just mean when engine has been off over night. Any suggestions/ideas?????
when you turn key to on, not crank, you should hear the FP come on for 2 secs. if you do, the relay is working.
if you hear it, turn off 10 secs, on 2 secs, off and on until you have pressurised the fuel rails. may take more than a couple times. that should get pressure to 40 or so.
if this does not help, hold throttle WOT, wide open while cranking in case it is too rich.
too lean and too rich show the same symptoms -long crank, hard start.
