Ive used those total seal rings for years, are they worth it, Id say that depends on what your after, standard rings are cheaper and work well but the total seal rings do give you a little more cylinder preasure and a little more hp, they claim about 30hp but after building about a dozen engines with them I think its more like 15hp more but they do tend to keep your plugs from fowling slightly better and do seem to maintain compression in the cylinders at higher levels for longer than standard rings
I've used them many times. I have heard critisisms about them, but have not found these to be significant.
Are they worth it,... I can't say.
Will I use them again,.... probably.
I have a supercharged motor which generates really high cylinder pressures and could have excessive blowby; so I considered the Total-Seal a necessity.
For a normally aspirated street motor with reasonable compression you might see a small improvement, but hey every little bit helps. I don't tend to believe the negative press either; Childs&Albert a very respected ring manufacturer is also making a Zero-gap ring.
Probably comes down to how much you want to spend; although they aren't that much more than a premium set of plasma-moly ductile iron rings... that $36 set is cheap cast crap probably.
