I took off my air intake to clean and replace filter. When i put it back on i started car with out connecting the IAT which is installed on the side of intake tube aprox 6 inches from gear clamp that holds tube to aluminum intake.Anyway AFTER starting the car i saw i hadnt plugged it in and when i connected it the car sounded like it was going to stall and then it raced back up and since then the idle is way to high 1500? Any ideas. Thanks Dave
Thanks again for your help, when i pulled the intake off i noticed that the black rubber was split where the large hose clamp holds it to engine. I ordered a induction power coupler from ecklers and i just opened package and i see that there is no hole to put the IAT sensor in? Any ideas. Dave
Ok its me again still no luck idle stays at 1500 or close to that. This car has 150000 on it had been sitting for a few years. New battery fresh gas a can of sea foam and i drove it home about 75 miles. It has to be something i did when i took off the split/old induction tube. When it was off i sprayed seafom deep creep into throttle body to clean it out. Also hosed out radiator leaves and pine needles up in that area. I did not get any water on motor.I installed new IAT into new induction tube with neg post on battery disconnected. Any other ideas for this transplanted yankee from Long island? Thanks Dave
Look for a vacuum leak. With a cold engine, I started it and gave a tiny shot of starting fluid onto areas I thought may be leaking. The engine pitch will change when you hit the right spot. Work fast you wantto be done before the engine gets hot or you will set your car on fire.
Mine turned out to be a cut injector o-ring but I had them off. Yours will probably be something else.
go look at EVERYTHING that you hyandled to do the work. There is a vac fitting under the TB as well. Its a vac leak,..no doubt. BUT, its in or behind the TB...I don;t think a vac leak matters in front of the MAF.
ANY codes showing? I hope you didn';t spray thru the MAF...too fragile for that.
if this were L98 I would say the IAT is not the problem. TPS or something you did with the throttle. if you have driven it for some miles, the idle may reset. if not, throttle blades may be binding. don't see how you created a vac leak with what you describe.
on l98, engine off, you would open throttle slightly, start engine, run for 5 secs, shut off, close throttle, restart after 10 secs. not sure how your IAC works.
I did change the serpentine belt, might have pulled something loose when i did that?
not likely. I think I overlooked the obvious: if it began when you plugged in IAT, unplug it. looking for a reaction ffom your sensors, that's all at this point.
did you try restting the Idle air control memory?
*** also, as leesvet said chek all vac lines, even if you didn't touch. the car was sitting, may have rotted. especially the cruise lines near the battery.

read the msg again, yankee. kidding.
I said to unplug/disconnect the IAT. with many sensors on the car, the computer, ECM, uses a default value, or a ANOTHER SENSOR, if the sensor is disconnected -not defective and communicating- disconnected.
you reset the idle air control with the 5 secs test, per the 91 fsm. that was a WAG, but easy to do.
Ok 1st i want to thank everyone for all your help.Yesterday i pulled my car into my father in laws garage to avoid Sandy hopefully! I had some time to kill so i used a drop light and carefull went over everthing i touched or was near when i replaced the induction tube. There are 3 wires going into thr plug that attaches to the IAT that plugs into the tube. One of the wires the black one was cut. It looks like this happened a while ago and the wire was only twisted together. It is now soldered. I then disconnected ground on battery for a few minutes hooked it back up and all is well. The only reason i replced the tube was because the original one had split near the gear clamp. The one i got from Ecklers was similar without the ridges but it was about 2 inches longer than original and didnt have hole for the IAT sensor. After some advise from you all i cut/drilled a hole in the same location that the original sensor was in and trimmed a few inches off the tube and all seems good to go rpm is back down no check engine lights. Now if Sandy dosent blow a tree onto the garage im in luck. Dave

One other thing that can happen when changing the serpentine belt is to whack the coolant temp sensor on the waterpump. I know you fixed your problem - just wanted to let you know if you ever change the belt again to watch for that sensor.
