I have failed for hydrocarbons. The allowable is 220 and I ran a 240 then a 290 after changing 02 sensor and running injector cleaner.... I also ran it hard on the way there to blow it out, apparently it made it worse...... Any ideas? I know my car burns some oil, so maybe I should put some motor honey in to help? It's a tpi, any way to lean it out?

Is the car stock or have you done any modifications?

Does the car run rich? You may have a fuel pressure regulator problem. Have you checked the fuel pressure?

How old is the air filter?

vacumn leak ? lean misfire ? after plugging and replacing the various rotted vacumn lines on my 460 ford work truck with an edelbrock rpm manifold and cam, the HC's dropped from 1320 to 180, with a carb and no cats.

Hydrocarbons are unburnt fuel. You can fake it by retarding timing a bit (4 degrees btdc) but it may be ignition related. When is the last time you did plugs, wires, cap, rotor?

Also there is some products on the parts store shelf that burn cleaner and easier than regular gas, designed to help pass smog. And make sure to run regular, not premium. I usually sniff really clean but I passed my last smog inspection within 1 ppm of the limit.

I just found a 1/2" vacuum hose that became disconnected from the bottom of a valve just above the A/C compressor. Hopefully that does the trick.

All the ignition parts are new on the car and everything is bone stock. I will def try regular gas this time, I don't think these cars are too picky anyway when it comes to Octane.

Thanks for the help, I'll keep everyone posted.

Are you getting any codes? Does it burn oil?

The cat may be bad...does it show any symptoms of running bad?

She burns a quart about every 800-1k. She seems to run pretty good, so I'm not sure why it fails the tests so poorly.....

I'm in NJ by the way, I'll update my profile.

I'll check into the timing, maybe regap the plugs while I am at it.

Thanks everyone!
