I am replacing the wires and spark plugs along with a new cap, rotor, and coil on my 1989 corvette.
I have bought the original wires and plugs but I am not sure what to use for cap and rotor and coil
I was looking online and found these and was wondering what anyone though of these and if they had any other suggestions for around the same price range as these.
The car has 88,000 miles on it and I think it is about time to replace it all as before I got the car it sat up a lot and only ran maybe 1 a month or less.
Unless you have lots of engine mods, the stock coil will more than do the job. IRRC, the Accel coil doesn't generate a whole lot more voltage than the stock coil. And you will no longer be able to use the existing aluminum cover that goes over the stock cap.
As far as a cap and rotor, the Accel cap will work fine. But so will a Taylor cap. When buying a cap, make sure it's the style that uses hold-down screws and not the spring-loaded clips used by other HEI distributors.
And you will save some money by ordering from Summit Racing or Jeg's; cheaper prices and cheaper shipping.

Do you recommend me changing my coil since the car has 88,000 miles on it? I am not sure how long they are good for have never replaced one in a car and do not know much about its lifespan.
i get everything off rock auto or amazon, just installed a delco cap and rotor and a delphi coil, everything works great. dont waste money on the fancy aftermarket stuff, stock is fine
My '87 has 72K on it and it still has the original coil. The car has a few mods (cam, bored .030 over, some head work, true duals) and runs fine. It sees mostly autocross events and track days and it runs fine at higher RPM's in the 3500 to 5000 RPM range.
Stock equipment (cap and rotor, plug wires and plugs) will work fine for a street car. Your coil should be fine; the small additional output from the SuperCoil won't really provide a benefit
The Accel Super Coil at Summit Racing is $63.95 and their shipping/handling is something like $10. I just looked at the ACCEL website and they don't show a screw-down HEI cap for L98 Corvettes. Make sure the Eckler's cap is the screw-down type and not the clamp-down version.
My 84 uses the clamp down style cap and I just got the " corrected" cap so the wires are all in a row on each side instead of #3 snaking across to the other side
HI Kitten, you are learning fast. NIX on the fancy stuff. It will do you no good and only lighten your bank account. I am a great believer in Rock auto. Good parts at excellent prices. That said your local NAPA store also sells some good stuff. Basicly a flip of a coin.
