Disconnected knock sensor will this cause problems?

A friend of mines vette has the wires Brocken on the knock sensor. Will this reduce performance or cause any problems?

It will fail to retard ignition timing in the event of detonation, which could burn a hole in a piston if it got bad enough. Can be a problem near sea level.....but once you get up around Barstow, not so much.

Tell your friend to repair the wiring. The knock sensor is there for a reaon. Heck it's only a single wire, how hard can that be?
