Need Header/Cat removal thoughts....
I've got the factory catback off the car and am now trying to remove the cats, before moving on to the exhaust manifolds. Already I'm running into problems trying to remove nuts/bolts at the manifold/cat flanges. One cat flange bolt snapped off. My plan is to go get a good size breaker bar in the morning but I'm afraid I'm just going to start snapping more bolts. Any thoughts how I should proceed? A good soak of penetrating oil?
Then there is a stud on the drivers side cat/catback flange that has a support bracket behind it. Looks like a torx bit on the end of the stud. How am I going to get that thing off?
Why don't the fricken manufactuers use anti-seize on the bolts during assembly!! :cuss :smash:

I soaked all the bolts on mine for a whole day. They where removed with ease. I used WD40. When removing the bolt or nut, I will turn it counter clockwise 1 turn and then a 1/2 of a turn clockwise. This will prevent the bolt or nut to strip or give you a hard time.

Even with 24 hours of penetrating oil soaking, I still snapped 2 of the 6 on my 92 when I took them off.. it is kind of a fact of life.. But the bolts are cheap to replace, so I wouldnt worry too much about it.

Oops.. didnt see that question.. Two words for ya- Ujoints, Extensions.. Find out which size torx it is, and get yourself a socket torx bit in that size.. Then using 1 or even 2 u joints, and extensions, loosen her up.. If you think that is bad, you should try loosening the tranny to block bolts!!
(my right hand is even with the location of the bolt.. )
