Regarding knock sensor install, believe they should be installed WITHOUT any sealant on the threads (albeit didn't find that quickly in my 94 FSM), albeit if installed with sealant, it should make them less sensitive.
Generally, knocks are caused by a lean condition or carbon build-up or bad timing.
So, assuming knock sensors are working correctly, suggest checking other things:
e.g. vacume leaks, loose spark plugs (11 lb ft), bad fuel injectors (ohm each).
Also, check the ICM (ignition (coil) control module) -- small electronic device near coil, check for loosesness, proper torque (inch pounds), heat sink paste behind it and heat sink. Can also remove and have tested as it affects timing of spark to plugs via the Opti (e.g. Autozone, O'Rielys).
Looks like you've got the same issue I'm having... but with this comment... I'm thinking I could have vacuum leak.. since occasionally it does sound like I got a blower on my car... and mine is N/A ... it may be my exhaust then for me... but I'll check my plugs as well. TY for this post... may solve my issue.
