I recently had a flat on the right rear and the TPS was damaged. The tire guy is claiming he can replace all four sensors with valve stem sensors. Is that even possible?
Maybe I'll be wrong too, but I don't think they will work either.
Sure, the valve stem sensors will mount to the wheels just fine.
But I do not believe they will "communicate" with the C4 ltpws system in your car.
Agreed!
I'm quite sure there's not one that will communicate with the OE/module. If their offer is to replace it with a "system" it's something to consider. There's some very nice aftermarket systems that have a very small display that do actual pressures and temperatures for each location. If it's their liability surely a OE sensor might be the more desired BUT if it's not available a "system" might be something to consider on their "dime".
Orange is a brand that was suggested one time and I believe there's an early and later system. I would think I'd be interested in maybe the later only if I were in the market. There are others, I'm certainly not suggesting Orange but it seems they're easier to maybe come by in the market. Your tire guy can maybe pass on some valuable information.
Is your car a "low-mile" occasional driver or a "higher-mile" daily driver? That might be the decision maker.
It's a 93 with 62,000 miles on it. I guess that doesn't qualify for a high milage dailiy driver. I don't need the system enough to buy a new configuraation, although I have looked at them, so i'm guessing the easiest thing to do would be to pull the other three sensors and the warning bulb and use a handheld gauge.

A right/rear '93 to '96MY is probably the most difficult to find. If you go to the trouble to remove your other three they're quite valuable. Make sure the "tire guy" knows what he's doing!! I don't believe I'd go to the effort to remove them until I were doing tires at those locations. If you're removing them there would be a new balance required. Maybe just be watching for a right/rear that's inexpensive.
I'm replacing the rims next month so I'll have to have them moved then anyway. The previous owner painted the sawblades black and to me it looks like a car without hub caps so I bought a used set that wasn't painted and I'm polishing them in my spare time. Maybe by the time I need to get them mounted I will have found a sensor.
Also, I don't know what I was thinking, I must have gotten turned around, it's the left rear vice right

What color is the label from the damaged one? There should also be an eight digit part number on the label.
