Default Scanning question

I have upgraded the computer in my '85 to the 165 version. I have finished some other work and am ready to fire the engine. I have an AutoXray 2000 scanner/code reader, do I now enter the info as an '86 or newer car so the scanner will read the newer ecm? I hope I will not need it right away but figured I better find out before I do.

You need to set the scantool for ALDL datastream of the ECM you are using so the sensor readings etc. are in the correct place. I am assuming you are using the correct Mask ID for the ECM also.

The 1227165 ECM was used from 1986 - 1989. You need to know what the EPROM code is, or at least what it was based on if it's modified.

I hope you got the correct version for your transmission type and rear axle ratio.

What did you do about the MAF power/burnoff module vs. the MAF power and burnoff relays that the 1227165 is expecting?

I did a complete changover using the power & burnoff relays. Also I am installing a piggyback by PCM for less so if I understand correctly the prom numbers are a moot point. The ecm & prom are, naturally TPI items so I should just be able to program the scanner for the year the prom was made, right?
