anyone know a good way to solder new wires on for the rear defroster from the glass to the rear hatch pistons?

I don’t think you can solder then on. But if I remember from years back there is a kit like from the aftermarket auto stores where there was some sort of special glue and contacts that would allow you to adhere to the metal strips and the glass.

Sorry I can't be more absolute or informative. It's something I remember from many many years back. You might start there.

Do a search for "defroster" and you will find the recent thread on this subject that contains the product name, and even a picture of the kit. Its is indeed a glue/adheasive for the defrost wires on the glass. Its virtually impossible to solder upside down, and to the thin foil of the defrost element...ain;t gonna happen. That glass isn;t pyrex either, so heat should be kept away, I'd think.

I used a Silver Conductive Epoxy from MG Chemicals, Cat No. 8331-14G.
Put it on about 2 years ago and it's still working.
