Has anyone converted the Optispark over to the 24x system? My Optispark has gone out on my 1996 LT4 and I'm thinking of converting to the 24x system if it isn't too complicated. Does anyone have any advice?
optispark problems are overblown. Getting rid of it is not the answer. Fixing it is the answer.
yes a bad optispark can strand your car.
but when the system is working its dead on accurate, and can light spark well beyond 7000 rpm. Doesnt need to have base timing adjusted (like SBC distributors).
Its only real problem is its location and the difficulty in replacing it.
Stay away from all the knock-off optisparks (including MSD, accel, etc.) and only use NOS ACDelco or Delphi and you should be good to go.
You want one with a genuine Mitsubishi optical sensor and a reluctor disk inside that is not warped.
Add a vented setup to a 92-94 gen i style and you will be good to go for 200000 miles.
