Do harness bars do anything to stiffen up the c4 or are they just for belt mounts?Dont want to put a roll bar in the car unless i have to. the c4 game is new to me so i need some input.Going to do some standing 1/2 mile and 1 mile stuff just for fun.Any pics of bars will help..thanks..Dennis
I think they are mostly to hook up racing harnesses to for autocross? They may add some stiffness, but I don't believe that is their intended pupose! I think some autocrossers will chime in!
I put mine in for the restraints, not for extra stability. Autocrossing there was no noticeable difference in terms of handling, but the control and feel of having the harness is amazing. There are enough things going on while on the track, eliminating having to figure out how to position yourself is well worth the extra weight of it in my opinion. I dont know how a harness would effect straight line feel, but for the speeds you will reach at a standing mile I would consider a full cage, too much can go wrong fast.
I've had one in my 86 for years. It may add a little stiffness, but having a harness to hold you in the seat when doing track days makes a big difference. If you decide to get one, get the extensions that set it back further. Otherwise its right behind your head. Bad news if you get rear ended without your helmet on.
It's my opinion that my Brey Krause harness bar has made my car a little stiffer. Especially when the top is removed. I also had my car aligned after I installed the bar. It mounts (4 points) to the upper and lower seatbelt mounts and is very well engineered and easy to install. You have to purchase the lap mounts and sub bar if you want at least a 5 point harness. This setup does work with the stock seats and you can add a race seat later if desired. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures. As far as what you need depends on how safe you want to be. I got a harness bar because my wife was concerned for my safety. While I was buying it I got a six point harness, extinguisher mount, and camera mount (to help data log of course).
When I bought my 93 vert, it had the roll bar already installed. It's always felt reasonably stiff, but it has the Xbrace underneath like all the convertibles.
I doubt that the roll bar adds much to the stiffness, but since I didn't have to pay for it, I like it. I have a five point harness that works with the roll bar that I use for track days.
Thanks to all for your input.Car goes for a cam change around the 2ed week in january, got a solid .580 roller to replace the hyd roller in car now. After that change and tune i will look into a 4-6 pt bar. I just sold a race car with a full cage and i hated all those bars, heres a pic to show you what i mean..thanks..Dennis
