Default MAF question

I guess I am not supposed to get my engine running with the new Pro Flo XT manifold, just as I am working the bugs out of it my starter chews up the flexplate. I need to know since I am running an LS style throttle body, will my maf work okay or will I need a newer LS style maf?

... ....... The MAF doesn't know or care whats downwind of it , but the ECM cares about which MAF its communicating with ... a LOT ...............

Both are 1988. I just came back in from checking to see how it acted when I pulled the connector off. The engine was hunting 100-150 rpm until I unplugged the maf, then it dropped way down in rpm but stayed within 20 rpm. I plugged it back in & the idle shot back up but started hunting again. Trying to work out bugs with a bad flexplate is real frustrating to say the least. Does it sound like a bad maf? I plan on doing some more checking tomorrow.

I doubt it is a bad MAF it is more then likely a bad tune. I would suppect that your tune needs tweaking to hold the idle stable. You have an LS1 style throttle body and that will require some changes to the IAC and timing to smooth out the idle.
