The Beast Roars! Engine rebuild completed.....
What was even worse with my guy was that he 'volunteered to bore out my existing throttle body and make is breathe as God intended. 6 months later, he told me 'it was jamming' and was now useless. He did let me have the new ASAM billet 58mm at cost, but to this day he still has my IAC valve and TPS. Had to buy new ones. I hate that man. I truly do. :mad
Also, there are new AFR 220's that I suspect are actually second-hand AFR 200's? Let's not even go there!
WHAT????
Negotiation for the engine build was originally all done by email, with the odd phone call thrown in. To be fair, the parts list did not have the word 'new' next to everything, but I assumed everything except the block was new.
Next, delays were explained as happening because 'we are waiting for the new heads to come in'. Pretty unequivocal that.
Finally, once I had the engine, I discovered two large tapped holes in the ends of the heads. I emailed AFR asking them for the spec of the thread, so I could get plugs for them. They answered that the holes were obviously there for a dry-sump system, but that they never sell heads drilled and tapped in this way. Therefore, they cannot have been new!
I also asked how you can identify the size of the head, and they answered that there should be a '220' stamped on the end. Both ends of the head have been ground down, and on the top, under the rockers, there's more grinding, but you can clearly see the bottom half of the numbers 200.
Draw your own conclusions!
I'll not know for sure until the heads come off again and I actually meausre their volume, and having just got her running I'm not keen to do that just now. Also, if my suspicions are correct, what can I do about it? Nothing!
Oh well - I suppose that's what you get dealing with a company that can hide behind an ocean!
Steve
