The Beast Roars! Engine rebuild completed.....
After 4 months waiting for the engine (which I was told would be ready in 2 weeks!), then 2 months waiting for a new throttle body, then a month of furious activity, here's what she looks like:
...as you can see, I've got some tidying up to do - sheathing the injector loom and general dress up work, but she's together, AND SHE STARTED FIRST FLICK    (Well, second flick actually, 'cause I forgot the MAF first time round - they don't run well without the MAF, do they?
I got some video of the first start up, and by Christ she's loud, even with the exhausts shut right down!. It's a Real Media file of 1.48 Mb, and you can see it here http://www.kiss400.com/THEBEAST/Engi...ebeastroars.rm
I'm still running with the old stock injectors, as it finally dawned on me that trying to run 36# injectors without computer changes was just plain silly! :bb The future holds an ECM upgrade, because I couldn't be bothered with EPROM burners!
I'd like to thank everyone on this forum who has given me advice over the last few months - you guys are the tops! :flag
Cheers, Steve

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Finally, I've found an advantage to being 42 years old!
Now, to complete the break-in then get her on the dyno for some proper set up work.
Specially trained sniffer dogs are used to guage O2 content of exhaust. The rollers have to be widened to given them some way of trotting alongside the exhaust, hence the term wideband O2.
Really, I'm astonished you didn't know this already :D
I considered and rejected Haltech and Accel DFI, in favour of a Speed-Pro F.A.S.T. with wideband O2 (who let the dogs out  ) - but it's two grand I ain't got at the moment!
A couple of people over on ECM/PCM suggested I'd be better with a '749 - they have said I will have driveability problems using a Speed Pro. I just seem to keep on getting conflicting advice! Hopefully, by the time I can afford to upgrade the computer, I'll have it all figured out. Clearly, speed-density is the way to go with this build.
The ECM thread is http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=316791
Cheers, Steve
I too think your going to be greatly hindered by the fact that the MAF and 85 ECM can not handle the system.
I am currently considering a swap to MAP. Maybe this winter!
