Default Parking brake light

I have a 1990 L98. Can someone please tell me the procedure for replacing the brake light bulb in the instrument panel or direct me to the information. Thanks

I couldn't find any old threads on how to do it, but it's early, so hopefully someone will chime in that's done it before! I have a 90 too, so I will be interested to see how it's done incase I need to do it one day!

You're sure it's the bulb and not the switch in the park/e brake?

Cluster needs to be removed. There's a black plastic cover on the backside of the cluster that needs removed to gain access to the bulb/socket. They're 161 bulbs and I believe a "full" compliment would be 20 if you wanted to do the complete cluster. I'm quite sure of the 20 count.

---------------------------------------------------------

It's been a long while since I've done it but this is best I recalled back in '09 !!

I believe you you'll need to remove the radio trim bezel and center vents and it would require in this order 1. shift **** 2. center console trim 3. radio/dic bezel 4. center vent 5. drivers knee bolster 6. IP cluster bezel 7. lower the column from support 8. remove connectors from cluster back side. It seems I recall a mention of removing the tilt lever for easier access!

Can it be done "with out" any of these steps? Maybe! I haven't done it but "need to"!! My order maybe in error but it seems like the proper sequence!

To verify the Brake bulb is good you turn the ignition On.
Then slowly turn the key towards the Start position.
Before you get to the Start position is the Bulb test position.
The Brake indicator should light in this position.

To remove the cluster.
Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait 10 minutes.
This will discharge the air bag control module.

Remove the tilt wheel lever. There is a flat spot on the shaft
so you can use a open end wrench on it.
Remove the footwell courtesy lamp panel.
Remove the diag. connector and carpeted panel.
Two of the bolts holding the carpted panel are
recessed into the carpet.

Remove the metal panel. Two of the bolts along the
transmission tunnel are hard to get to.

Sit in the driver seat and loosen the two bolts that
hold the steering column to the dash frame.

Remove the dash cluster bezel.
Remove the dash cluster.

If you need more clearance remove the bolts
that hold the column to the dash frame.

Try not to let the column drop to far down because
there are two bolts at the base of the steering column
that hold the column to the firewall.

Here's a thread with pictures.
