For the life of me i can't get the back bolts to even break loose. I put some pb blaster on it and I'm gonna try torching it tonight . Anyone have any idea how to put a wrench on the front two nuts? Doesn't seem like its possible to get anything on them to tight of a fit and fat hands Any advice would be appreciated!
A 21mm open ended wrench will rest on the cbeam and hold the nut. It helps to have an air wrench, but you still should be able to loosen the lower 21mm headed bolt with a 1/2 rachet or breaker bar. They are torqued to 65 ft/lbs. Fat hands definitely make it tough.
Oh, forgot to add, when you start turning the bolt on the underside, the nut on top will turn. The wrench will wedge against the tunnel and stop the nut from turning. Good luck.
Once you get the bolts out the wrestling match to get the C beam out begins. It can be frustrating and require much swearing, but it does come out. I reinstalled mine with C beam plates. They make it much easier to torque the bolts and I did notice an improvement in my launch.

NO! NO! Mister Bill! no hot work on or near fiberglass!
some patience and a wrench will fit on the nuts atop the c-beam; you may have to experiment with some wrenches of different overall lengths to find one that gets up there, but trust me, it can be done.
use a six sided socket / breaker bar combo on the head of the bolt.
I don't believe the trans has ever been taken out. I've been trying for 2 days an pb blaster and it won't budge. I have a 21mm socket and 1/2 ratchet and using a breaker bar and all my weight and nothing. I don't know what else to do or try.

Do you have a friend with an impact? It may be time to go get one.
Ah just about got it had to take the handle to my floor jack and use it as it as a handle extension lol. Any tips for the next step of dropping the Trans?

If this situation trying putting a jack under the rear and jack it up. It will change the angle and reduce the bolt binding going in. It should slide right in.

Have a lot of extensions and make sure to take note of grounds.
Once you have the C beam bolts broken loose, place a floor jack under the transmission and raise it slightly until you can slip the C beam bolts out. Then wrestle the C beam out. To get at the transmission bolts lower the transmission. Be careful not to break the wiper controller. With the transmission lowered you should be able to get to all 6 bolts from below with a long extension and a 9/16 socket and a flex adapter.
Craig - what are C-Beam plates ? Do you have a photo you can post for us? Where did you purchase yours ?
The plates are stiffeners. I don't have pictures but you can view them at www.ZFDoc.com. The plates that go on the top of the C beam are basically nut plates. The beauty is that you don't need a wrench on the top nuts when torqueing. They are supposed to stiffen the C beam and prevent the rear from kicking out to the right when you launch. Some say they make no difference. But my experience is that they did help. My 85 now launches in a straight line. They are a bit pricey. But someone with welding skills could make them pretty easily.
