Well this is the beginning of the install. So far I have got all the interior removed (carpet pad went in garbage, "nasty") then stripped, scraped, and vacuumed, and a good scrubbin with some SuperClean. She now sits overnight with a de-humidifier, and small heater.
Are you also doing the doors ? I used fatmat 3 years ago with no compalaint , you'll like the difference in rattle/road noise and stereo sounds much cleaner..

Ya I wanna do it all. Ive got a 120sf. I did the outside door panels when I did the speaker install. Also will be converting the 2 glove boxes into woofer space, so all that will be wrapped too. Right now im focusing on what I have exposed, then if I have to buy a little more to finish the doors I will. Have to get it back to drivable ASAP!
Did you do the Roll bar, and top too? Ive been debating it, but most of the noise seems to be down low. I was kinda surprised GM didnt use any deadener at all. Should be a major improvement! Peace. h
I haven't done my vette yet, but I've done just about everything thing else I've owned. It dropped the cabin noise in my old 85 chevy truck 25-30 DBs, also kept it alot cooler.

Well like I stated earlier, I was shocked that they didnt have anything, and after knocking on the panels, I can imagine it will be a major improvement its gonna be. Sounds like you are inside a plastic barrel. Thanks for the comments. h
if and where you overlap the fatmat, wipe down the shiny side with a degreaser first. If not, it does not stick. FWIW I did part of the inside of a workvan I have and it did make it more solid sounding. Not as tinney.

Good luck with your project. I'm starting my tear down this month and putting down Dan's (from Exotic Vette) foil lined foam. Keep the pictures coming as I need inspiration. Can you tell me a little bit about fatmat. I also plan to run some new speaker wires for a future project, what are you installing? 16 gage? Thanks

Thanks for looking in! I used the FatMat for its stickyness. I have done alot of custom stereo installs, and used many different products, and this is definitley the one, especially in cold weather. I have never done a whole car though, most people dont want to pay for it.
As far as wires, I usually go with a kit. This is the one I got this time. h
Well After 6hrs, she's down. I must say, Im pretty tired. Ive been a tile/marble installer for 30yrs, and getting this rolled to my **** satisfaction, has kicked my ***. Anyway I got all the stereo wires ran, and then FatMat over everything.
The job went well, but I did end up short for the inside door panels. I really thought a 120sf, would be enough, so I went and checked the kit again, and it was only 100sf. Doh! http://www.ebay.com/itm/FatMat-100-S...5d273f&vxp=mtr Oh well they sell a kit just for doors too. And heres your pics. Peace! h
I will post pics of the Subwoofer, and amp install as I get them done. The goal here is to be invisable, and to take no space away from the rear hatch area.
I bought my materials several years ago. Your work is inspiring me to finally do mine.
I should have done it earlier, so I could have enjoyed the miles I have been driving!
Thanks, I'm sure it will be worth it. I started the car, and it did sound different. I'm 45, with a brain tumor, and if I can do it, you can too! Peace. h
Just a quick update. Been doing some padding. Filled in all the low areas first, then went over the whole thing. Still need to do the woofer areas, just wanted to get the amp, and Capacitor mounted first. (Which I did today, and it was tight)
Also the seat springs, and wires, were all but gone. So I soaked the spings, and threw the rest away. I bought new rods to tie off to, and my brother works for the phone co., and had a bunch of strap called "meal tape", that has an ungodly burst strength. (I think he said 2000lbs per inch, used to pull cable) So I weaved myself some new baskets, and put hogrings on the knots. Seams to realy work well. Tape/strap moves nicely over the rods when the springs flex. Should be a major difference from sitting on the floor.
