Default 1995 Stereo

I know I've asked before but still have not found a answer. My 95 stereo has delco speakers front and rear. The stereo is a delco bose with cd and tape. It does not have the amps on the speakers. The rear speakers work o.k. but sometimes cut in and out and the fronts barely make a sound, only highs. Where would the amps be for this delco set up? This car is all stock never changed ...Help

Look at the passenger rear storage bin lid for the RPO codes for the vehicle.

UM6 Electronically tuned stereo radio with cassette. (Delco radio).
UU8 Delco Bose with cassette.
UIF Delco Bose with CD and cassette.

Inside the storage bin will also be the CDM (receiver/brains for the head unit).

A Bose CDM looks like the first picture. Notice the shape of the bracket the red arrow points to.

The second picture shows a CDM for a Delco non Bose radio. Notice the red arrow points to a heat sink at the end of the unit.

The Delco radio did not use amplifiers in the speaker enclosures the Bose
radios do.

UY5 4 speaker system.
UQ4 Delco Bose 4 speaker system.
UX0 Delco Bose 6 speaker system.

You may want to start at the very basic step and pull out a front speaker and check it independently. You can drive it from another source or check for basic resistance of the main speaker. If two speakers are used and it has a cross over with a capacitor, you may not have to isolate the speakers to get an accurate reading. Your target is the larger speaker.

You are probably looking for anything from 1 to 8 ohms. I say that because I don’t know the exact resistance of that speaker. You're looking for a catastrophic problem like an open voice coil which would be infinity ohms.

If the speaker is good, then check all your connections you can get at. You can tap the CDM box and see if the rear speakers cut off. Other than that you may need to send it out for repair if you don’t have the skill to work on the inside of the box yourself.

So the car was originally a Delco radio with cassette with non amplified speakers.

Prior owner installed a Bose Gold CD/Cassette head unit.

The radio worked when you purchased the car but now it appears
the Delco CDM is bad because some of the speakers have sound problems.

Cheapest fix would be to replace the Delco CDM with a used Delco one or have your CDM repaired.

Example of a used Delco CDM. Note the seller indicates the need to verify
the part number.

Default Delco/Bose gold speaker amplifiers

I've read your posts regarding speakers on the Bose, but am still somewhat confused. Where are the amplifiers on the Bose gold system. I have a rear speaker that makes a very loud hum when the radio is turned on. It comes only from the right rear speaker, I am told it needs a new or rebuilt amplifier, but I dont know exactly where to look for it. Can you help?

I have a similar problem. I am told I need a new amplifier as the rear speaker outputs only a loud hum or buzzing sound. If I turn the radio volume all the way up, the music overrides the hum. I dont have any idea where the amplifiers are.

Amps are built into each speaker.

Default rear speaker amplifiers

I've been told that I have a bad speaker amplifier. I get a loud hum or buzz, really loud and sounds like a bass sub woofer when I turn the radio on. It works ok sometimes then other times it doesn't. Does this sound like an amplifier? Also, can the rear speaker amplifier be taken out without having to remove the carpet and the entire speaker box? I see 4 screws around the speaker itself, do these screws come out and allow the speaker to come totally out and can the amplifier be removed like this?
