are you familiar with the ninth injector? Previous owner might have removed it. Mine was leaking so I deleted mine. Takes a little extra cranking to get her started now. It's on the drivers side and injects directly into the plenum-look for a small metal hose coming off the back of the fuel rail to the injector. If it's not there, that could be causing your long crank time. That injector is only on the old C4s, it shoots a small amount of fuel directly into your intake, kinda like spraying starter fluid into the intake, to get things started more quickly. You don't have to have it (they tend to leak after a while) and you can't buy a new one, to my knowledge.

I fought this one for many years and was not happy about it. two fixes for me. I had a couple of leaking injectors - replaced all. the second problem is that my fuel pressure was not holding to spec after shut off. After a complete search and change out of the entire fuel system, i found it was a ruptured fuel pulsator damper - it's just upstream of the fuel pump (note the troubleshooting manuals dont mention this thing as a potential pressure issue source). You can replace this little piece with straight fuel hose - pressure problem now solved and my hard starts when warm are now much much better. hope this helps.
Hello Viii, I read with interest about the fuel pulsator damper that you took off. I'm having the same problem on my 86 no start when warm, I put in a new fuel pump, I can see & feel about 12 to 15 inches of fuel line where the fuel line comes out of the tank by the filler cap but theres nothing but fuel line, what does this pulsator look like? Maybe an 86 dosn't have one,or maybe its located farther down the line? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks,Mark
For the hard starting folks there is a fuel temp sensor on the front of the engine, check and clean or change it. It could cause the problem too. My 85 starts when the key is put to run any time(167000) so something is out of wack.
what fuel temp sensor? you guys do know this is a four old thread? i'm fairly sure the OP, along with his issues, are long gone.
