The opti spark uses optical (infrared) leds.

The optispark does not have a hall effect magnetic field sensor.

Nice try.

No. I am saying the information is wrong.

its like advertising bias ply Michelins for you C4

or AM radio....

Hall Effect Pickup is what the old school distributors used. And what some crank trigger systems use.
Yet this is not what the opti-spark uses.

The part may be fantastic and work really well....
At the same time when its advertised with incorrect information, I really start to wonder if they know what they are selling. Or if the manufacture knew what they were building.

Its like seeing a picture of an automatic rifle for sale and the sales pitch says "best revolver on the market"... I wouldnt be buying it...

It is a step down in technology?

Hi merlot566jka,

We just copied the info right off of ProComps website. So we were not
trying anything. Glad you pointed that out, we will check on it.

Here is some more info I found on Ebay, I think it's the same Opti as the one posted here.

PROCOMP ELECTRONICS
PC10010D

GM LT1 DISTRIBUTOR
OPTI SPARK

We know all of you LT1 fans have been patiently waiting for a performance replacement for your 1995-1997 LT1 distributors.

Here it is!
(PLEASE VIEW 3RD PICTURE TO BE SURE IT WILL FIT YOUR APPLICATION
WILL NOT FIT SPLINE LT1 TYPE)See our other listings for that item.

This all new distributor housing is injection molded from a special material that provides extreme strength and high dielelctric properties resulting in less chance of breakdown causing a misfire. The terminal paths are encased in a durable epoxy compound for even more protection. The pickup is an advanced optical encoder, a different style of optical pickup than the OEM version. This new and improved pickup has been designed for reliability and stability through extreme RPM and conditions. The rotor is bolted to a drive assembly that is indexed to the shaft and is stabilized through the use of a large ball bearing assembly.

We have been burned by some very ****** opti sparks for our cars.

I hope this unit is high quality and not made in china crap.

This part can literally kill a corvette driver if it breaks down on them and strands them onthe side of a busy interstate.

Other drivers drive that crappy and inconsiderately that they are too stupid to identify a broken down vehicle. Even if its not on the road (ie. The berm), they will still hit it.

I hope this part works as advertised because we have been burned by other vendors.

I myself put in a remanufactured acdelco gen ii optispark that turned out defective. It took me 6 hours of labor to install/ reinstall a functioning replacemnt in place of the defective remanufactured ac delco optispark.

How is your Optispark working? Any issues with the one in your Vette now?

"This part can literally kill a corvette driver if it breaks down on them and strands them onthe side of a busy interstate."

The same could be said if a tire blew out, a ignition coil was defective or a ecu went out or any part on your Vette.

I know some of you have your doubts about this ProComp Optispark. I think if it were a product with a lot of defects it would be all over the internet. I'm sure every brand of opti (even GM) has its failures. Just saying! We do not manufacture the ProComp
Optispark, and are just a dealer for them. If we determine that they are not reliable or are of poor quality we will discontinue selling them.
