1995 Corvette: Once the original Opti spark has been replaced, is this something that will have to be done again? Yes, I understand that ANY part can malfunction- I guess what I am asking is the engine set up to "eat opti sparks" or were the factory installed opti sparks created poorly and once you replace it with a non-original, you should be all set. Thanks.
I replaced the opti on my 95 at 88000 miles because the water pump had been leaking on it for a couple of months. It was still working fine, but I decided to put a new on in anyway. I bought a ac delco replacement and did the work myself. It now has 115,000 mi;les on it and has not missed a beat. Our old early ninties caprice patrol units regularly went over 150,000 with no problems.
My 93 had 85,000 when I replaced the Opti and if this one last that long I won't be around long enough to replace it. The Optis will last a long time and there main enemy is moisture inside the unit. If they stay dry they will go for many years if you use a good quality replacement..
heads up GM parts are now made in Tiawan.... So your actually getting a crappy cheap version. Which is why they crap out again sooner after replacements.
You will probably not find a replacement Opti that is as good as the factory original.
I have just over 119k miles on my '96, and still running just fine with the factory original Opti.
Are you sure of that. The reason I'm asking is a a friend of mine that's a mechanic and I were talking about this the other day. He's been using Delco parts on all GM cars for years and doesn't think the quality is what it was years ago. Just wondering if you have seen any proof of that and if so I'll pass that on.
