Default hard brakes

i just picked up a 1989 vette and i am happy with most of it...most. my brake pedal is very hard and my abs light is on. also, my climate control has no selection for defrost, vents, or floor. its just always blowing out of all of them. with all of this my first thought was that the car needs a vacuum pump. but i dont think this thing has one of those, does it? everything runs off intake i would assume. i have a bunch of other questions about this thing but they will all come at one point or another. i am not new to cars at all, but i have never had a corvette. in a few months i hope to be a vette pro!

Your brake booster might be bad. Do you hear any hissing or a swoosh as you push the pedal?
Also make sure that it is getting vacuum to the booster.

Check the vacuum lines under the hood to see if there are any broken or cracked vacuum lines. Look at the check valve under the right plastic cover to see if it is broken for the vent problem.

The rest of the problems you're going to have to take them one by one.

It might take you a bit longer that a few months the be a vette pro but you motivation is good.

Your vacuum check valve is on the driver's side at the bottom of the distributor. It supplies vacuum to the HVAC system in the cabin and the cruise control (I bet yours doesn't work). They are around $4 at any auto parts store. It looks like this:

il listen for wooshing and check for vacuum at the booster later on today. can i take out that check valve and just blow into it to see if its bad? it should only go in one direction right? or i can just cough up 4 dollars and replace it regardless, which is probably what i will do. ill post some pics later too. this thing hauls some serious *** for an old car! my last car was a nissan 350z (i know, big change) and the vette is right on par with it.

I found a broken vacuum line. Fixed it and now i have selection for the climate control fan! And my cruise control works sometimes too. I havent fooled around with the brake booster yet. The brakes actually got alot better in the last few days. I think it may have had a frozen caliper or slmething from sitting.

Maybe this link can help you, but I think the procedure is for 1992-1996 cars
