Default Possible Purchase Question

I'm considering a 96 CE, 79K miles, auto trans for purchase. Rear changed to 3.73 by prev owner and has hypertech tune installed.

Road test shows a hard 1-2 upshift. Could this be due to the Hypertech chip or could there be possible trans issue?

Rest of car shows well other than a few cosmetic issues and hand brake while holding car does not lock in up position.

Thanks for any input.

Probably the tune, it could be adjusted if desired.

Those yrs are adjustable...but there could have been some internal trans work done too...

More than likely its the tune. Shift points can be adjusted electrically. Earlier models were purely mechanical with only TC electronic control.
Brake lever...probably got a sticky pawl..from never having been used.
Whats the price? 12K or less? it would need to be immaculate to justify 12 or more...with NO issues and lots of documentation on the maint.

If the 96 is like my 89 the hand brake isn't suppose to lock in the up position..It's suppose to pull up, lock, then go down until it's time to release the brake. To release you pull up , push button, and lower down.......This is the best anti theft device ever made.......WW

Just imagine how hard it would be to get out of the car otherwise.

I have/had a 93 with 3:73 and a shift kit. 1-2 shift will snap your neck untill you get a feel for it. Broke the 3:73, back to the 2:59, can barely feel that 1-2 unless I really get on it. Miss the torque of the 3:73 but enjoying the new mpg
