What are guys doing to replace the rubber fuel hoses below the a/c compressor? I pulled my compressor last night and noticed while I am in there I should replace the two rubber hoses. I was going to use some fuel injection hose if it can make those bends without kinking and double band ends with fuel injection clamps, but if there is a better way let me know without breaking the bank.
To be safe, Flare the ends or knurl the pipe/tube so the hose can "bite" onto the tube better and seal itself. I always double clamp with fuel...one clamp turned 180* from the other...right next to each other.
Be damn certain to use fuel injection high pressure hose....thats a real bad place for the wrong hose to start leaking. EFI hose is alcohol resistant and holds more pressure. There is plain 'ol fuel line then there is EFI fuel line...
When you get some practice on this section you have some more to do on the tank filler plate....those are notorious for breaking and rotting if they have ever been pulled off the nipples for pump service/repair. They get shorter and shorter until theres nothing left to clamp to the tank.
There WAS a guy some months ago that was going to use his dremmel to cut-off the end of the steel pipe at the tank so he could do this repair...add rubber line. Several folks advised against using a dremmel or any other cutting tool on a tank line...full of fuel. Never heard from him again.....not sure how his repair went.
