Hey guys just looking for your opinions on what is a good rebuild kit? I was looking to go to a 383, but that might put me a little over budget. So I am looking at a 355. I could go to a 383, but I might end up going cheap on some parts and end up paying big in the end. This is going into a 93 lt1. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks
it costs less than 200 to do a stroker >355 if that
if anything spend your money there! Cubes are everything on the street
Less than 200? I must be looking at full kits. Give me some info on where to get the parts for that price. Im not going to be on the track with this, so if I can do this (383) for less than 200 that great.
a large part of a rebuild, even a budget rebuild, is whether or not you can (or want to) reuse the existing crank; if you do, obviously you're limited to a 355, but in return you save the cost of a new crank. if you decide not to reuse the existing crank, well a new 3.75 inch crank for a 383 (in a kit) is going to be pretty close to a 3.48 inch crank (in a kit) for a 355. If you decide to go the 383 route, there are a ton of people on this forum who can advise you.
Speeding is a little flexible. Im just trying to save a dime everywhere I can. You know because the economy is doing so great. I seen this kit on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevy-383-LT...36603e&vxp=mtr . Is something like this worth the time? The cost for doing the block and heads are not an issue. I also have a cam and 1.6 rockers.
nice, but the crank pictured is for an earlier block with a two piece rear seal and won't work in a later 1 piece rear seal block (86 up including lt engines)
There is nothing wrong with that particular kit. Generic pic but the PN listed is correct for 1pc rear seal block or LTX. Thats a good price as most everyone else has it for $850ish...
That kit would be a good choice for up to 450hp NORMALLY ASPRIATED. Keep the RPM under 6500 and you'll be fine.
With the Eagle SIR rods on a 3.75 stroke you will need to grind on the block at the bottom of the cyls/pan rails for clearance and you will probally need to grind on the rod shoulders for cam clearance. All common stuff so nothing to worry about.
With those Speed Pro dished pistons and 54cc heads you can get the compression up to around 10.5 SCR by decking the block to put the piston .010 in the hole and running a .026 Victor/Mr. Gasket/Impala head gasket.
Depending on what cam you have and who does the heads you could have a pretty good budget 383 LTX engine.
