Default Old Calmap laptop system, convert to...?

My car is using what I believe is the predecessor to the current DFI Gen7 system. I've only used the system to fine tune the car one time, and that was almost ten years ago with a factory service tech on the other end of the phone. This system uses a laptop connection and was installed in the car by the previous owner.

I've reached a point where I'd like to try and optimize the tuning again, and its obvious I need to either upgrade or trade out the existing tuning system for something new, hopefully without turning my car into a large paperweight in the process.

I'd like the hive mind here to give me some good considerations on how to move forward. You can see the specs for the car in my sig below. It's also been converted from MAF to MAP.

I'll first need to research what exactly went into the MAF to MAP conversion so I can take those mods into consideration, but my focus for this thread is to find a quality method for programming the car without having to earn a double tech degree in the process. Can anyone offer some suggestions on what has worked for them?

It's always good to see you post! Good to see the car is still in your hands! A favorite of mine!

I believe if I were you I'd contact "tjwong" here on the forum. I believe he frequents regularly and would know and more importantly "understand" where it is that you'd like to go. You and he aren't "neighbors" but I believe the knowledge you need is likely there. I don't know or can't think of anyone that might be as well or better educated in the system you've got than TJ.

Here's a link to his business venture:

I've been tuning and installing Accel DFI since 1994, look on the back of your ECU and get the part number, so we know which system you have. Then I can try to help you out.....
