Default getting started

I just bought a non running 1984 Manual corvette. I changed the FILTHY oil replaced the plugs and set the timing, correctly I hope. I tried to start the car. It cranked but did not try to start or miss fire. I am thinking that it is not getting fuel. Is there anything other than a fuel pump that will keep it from starting?

thank you
Joe

How did you set the timing if it won;t start?
Thats a first.

and to answer the question....theres LOTS that will keep it from firing up and starting..or even burping.

Test fuel pressure, test to see IF there is fuel at the injectors. 15 psi on a CF motor. Not much required to make it run.

Checking spark is easy enough.

I set the timing by
1. Bringing number one to top dead center, compression stroke.
2. Placing the distributor on the number one cylinder.
3. Checked for spark by using a timing light.

Someone suggested checking to see if it has gas DOH!!! Thank you for the help

You cannot accurately set a HEI manually. You can set valves that way...not HEI. It may be close, but the ICM does a lot of adjustments to dwell and advance many times a second...and the base timing is all that can be done with it running. The ICM takes it from there and instantly advances it to meet the demands of temp, load, other ECM needs. I'm sure thas close 'nuff to start...if all the other conditions were met.

The suggestion about gas comes from YOUR question about the fuel pump. If its getting gas to the injectors, then isn;t that a fair indication that the fuel pump IS running?
...and as I stated before, the CF motor only needs 15 psi...not much.

BTW..the ECM manages the injectors, air and everything else.

Good Luck with your car, it doesn't look like I can help much..

Guys in here will try and help you..they are NOT trying to be smart azzs or thinking your dumb..some folks are not as advanced as others, NOT saying your not. Every single problem had with a vette has been experienced by someone in here ans by the way..there is a huge 84 crowd in here..give it a bit.

Thank you for the information and support. I am going to make sure it has gas in it today, doh. Then I will put a battery. Up to now I have been using the battery from my othe car. Then I will spin the engine with the timing light. Just to make sure that the timing is set to start the car. I spoke to the former owner and he said that the car was running when he stopped driving it. So gas and timing, for now. Thanks again. I realize that emial does not offer inflection so sometimes people come off as rude when they do not intend to be.
